Karate
The Oswegoland Park District offers a variety of karate classes for all skill levels including Tang Soo Do and Shotokan. Browse our online brochure for current karate programs.
Tang Soo Do Karate Beginner
Learn the elementary techniques of Tang Soo Do, a system of unarmed self-defense. We will emphasize safety and understanding for younger students. As is typical in most Karate classes, students of all levels are taught in this class with the opportunity to earn colored belt ranks at the end of the session.
Tang Soo Do Karate: Intermediate/Advanced
Tailored for students who wish to continue beyond the Beginner level and have earned the rank of yellow belt. The principles of other martial arts styles will be introduced. As is typical in most Karate classes, students of all levels are taught in this class with opportunity to earn colored belt ranks at the end of the session.
Karate students should wear loose fitting clothing or a karate uniform. Participants may purchase a uniform through the instructor. Tang Soo Do Karate students who wish to be tested will pay a $20 test fee to the instructor.

Shotokan Pre-Karate
Through a variety of fun and creative activities, children will develop coordination, strength and personal safety skills in a supervised setting. Children will learn skills that develop
memory and agility to help them in school and other sports.
Shotokan Youth Karate
Karate builds coordination, agility, strength and poise, as well as personal safety skills, along with skills to release tension brought on by school and peers. The confidence gained through Karate helps foster a strong positive self-image, control and discipline.
Shotokan Adult Karate
Karate is ideal for releasing tension and developing cardiovascular fitness. The self-defense skills taught are invaluable if ever confronted with a dangerous situation. Karate movements develop poise and agility while improving overall muscle tone. Youth and adult classes will train together.
Shotokan Karate uniforms and testing information are available through the instructor.
