Distinguished Agency

The Oswegoland Park District was presented the Distinguished Agency Award at the State IPRA Conference in Chicago on January 27, 2006. Of the over 330 park districts in the state of Illinois, only 37 hold this distinction.

Park Board President Robert Mattingly along with Commissioners Mike Apolzan, Danielle Ebersole, Deb Krase and Mark Slover, accepted the award on behalf of the Oswegoland residents and staff.

Who Presents the Award
The Illinois Distinguished Agency Award is a joint program sponsored by The Illinois Association of Park Districts and The Illinois Parks & Recreation Association.

How Does an Agency Qualify for the Award
To become a Distinguished Agency, organizations must complete a voluntary evaluation process used to identify those agencies that meet an established set of standards in providing superior park and recreation services to their residents.

The evaluation process consists of several sections including general management, finance and management, facilities and parks, personnel, recreation services, and legal. In order to become a Distinguished Agency, there is a minimum score to be met in each section.

What Does It Mean to You?

It means…

  • That your park district meets the internal and external standards required to qualify in the top 10% of districts in the state in providing superior recreational services.
  • That all policies and procedures have been reviewed, updated, and distributed resulting in increased and more effective customer service.
  • That all facilities and operations of the district have been reviewed for safety and effectiveness making your parks and facilities safe, clean, and efficient.
  • That the Oswegoland Park District staff exhibits the commitment and dedication necessary to work together as a team to complete this two-year process resulting in better service to its residents.

The Distinguished Agency Award is valid for six years after which the district will need to be re-evaluated. During that time, you can be assured that the policies, procedures, systems and evaluations created, reviewed, and implemented during this process will enhance the quality of our programs, facilities and services to our residents as we continue our mission of creating opportunities for a healthy community.
