Come see as Museum Director, Roger Matile, uses historical photographs, maps and other documents to relate the history and evolution of downtown Oswego. From the community's settlement in 1833, it served as the mercantile center for a large surrounding agricultural area. During its long history, the downtown business district has survived many challenges, from the removal of the county seat to Yorkville in 1864 and the devastating fire of 1867 that destroyed the whole east side of the business district, to the lean years of the Great Depression. Today, the downtown remains a vital part of Oswego's character. Pre-registration is recommended, but walk-ins are always welcome.
