As we say goodbye to the 2019 season, we would like to give a special thanks to those that made the Pantry Garden possible!
On Thursday, September 19, the Park District Board of Commissioners and Dave Margolis, our Natural Resource Manager, recognized Schaefer Greenhouses for their continuous support of the program since 2011.
The Pantry Garden was established in 2007 at Prairie Point Park. This program has taken a marginal piece of land and turned it into a volunteer run garden.
The garden is made up of raised vegetable beds, herb beds, fruit trees, fruit bushes and several barrel planters, with all of the produce being donated to the Kendall County Community Food Pantry in Yorkville.
The Schaefer Greenhouses space has allowed the volunteers who run the garden to give their plants a head start and add more variety to the garden. This collaboration has helped result in excess of 5,000 pounds of fresh produce donated each year.
With the help of our volunteers and Schaefer Greenhouses, we have been able to give back to our community!
