You may see crews in yellow vests and hardhats looking closely at the trees in our parks through the end of June. What are they doing?
The Oswegoland Park District was awarded a $13,000 Urban and Community Forestry Grant to complete a digital inventory of our park trees’ species, size, and condition. Approximately 200 trees a day will be analyzed and documented. The funds were provided by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Urban and Community Forestry Partner Grant Program and administered by The Morton Arboretum and the Chicago Region Trees Initiative (CRTI).
Once the inventory is complete, a tree management plan will be prepared to guide our Staff Arborists and Parks Crews in maintaining those trees for years to come. We thank the USDA Forest Service, Illinois DNR, Chicago Region Trees Initiative, and The Morton Arboretum for funding this important grant program.
