Stay Tick-Free in the Parks & Trails!

Tick in Grass

As the weather warms up, outdoor adventures are calling! But so are ticks—and no one wants to bring one home. Here are a few quick tips to help you stay tick-free this season:

  1. Stick to the trail. Ticks hang out in tall grass and brush. Stay in the center of marked trails and avoid wandering through dense vegetation.
  2. Dress smart. Light-colored clothing makes it easier to spot ticks. Wear long sleeves, pants, and tuck your pants into your socks to keep ticks from sneaking in.
  3. Repel the pests. Use insect repellent containing between 10% – 30% DEET to help keep ticks at bay.
  4. Do a tick check. After spending time outdoors, check your entire body for ticks—especially hidden areas like behind the knees, ears, and around the waistband. Don’t forget your pets too!
  5. Shower soon after. Showering within two hours of coming indoors has been shown to help wash off ticks before they attach.

Protect yourself and your family so your outdoor memories are full of fun—not pests!
