The Oswegoland Park District is excited to announce the acquisition of the former LA Fitness facility at 201 Ogden Falls Blvd in Oswego. This strategic purchase will significantly expand indoor recreational and aquatic programming opportunities for the Oswegoland community.
Since late 2023, the District has been evaluating the site’s potential to meet the indoor and aquatic space needs identified in the 2023 Community Survey and Strategic Plan. This acquisition directly addresses those priorities, allowing for increased access to year-round recreation for residents of all ages.
Originally built in 2006, the building has been vacant for nearly two years and requires substantial renovations before reopening. Updates are needed to critical systems, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and aquatic components. The District anticipates an estimated 18-month rehabilitation period to bring the facility back to operational standards.
While the building once operated as a fitness center, it will be reimagined to support a variety of indoor recreation and aquatics programs. Planned uses include swim lessons, small group classes, athletics, and other indoor activities designed to serve residents of all ages.
The project will be funded through the District’s accumulated resources and non-referendum bonding authority.
“We’re thrilled to move forward with this opportunity,” said Tom Betsinger, Executive Director of the Oswegoland Park District. “This facility will allow us to better serve our residents and continue building a vibrant, healthy, and connected community.”
Stay tuned for updates as plans progress toward bringing this exciting new community resource to life.
