Multi-event sports aren’t just for elite adults. Kids are invited to swim, bike, and run to the finish line. Coordinated in partnership with School District 308 Physical Education teachers, the Kids’ Triathlon course is a 100 meter swim, a 3 mile bike ride, and a half mile run around the track. Kids enrolled in 3rd through 6th Grade compete in this non-continuously timed event. Everyone receives a long sleeve t-shirt. While awards are given to the fastest in each division, the real winners are all the kids who bolt from the start and head towards the finish.
10:00am-10:30am at Oswego East High School Football Field (1525 Harvey Rd, Oswego). Pick up shirt, bib, and safety pins. Teams listed under team captain’s name. Confirm your spot and to set up your gear. Set up your bike outside Door #39 with your towel, dry clothes, shoes, and shirt with bib. Athletes and parents meet at the football field bleachers at 10:45am to review race procedures.
To ensure a safe event for the athletes, park in the outer parking lots. These spots will be marked with Event Parking signs. While the spots are farther away, it makes it safer for your kids if you park outside of their biking area.
This event is bib-timed. Pin your bib on the front of your shirt. Your number will be written on your arm at check-in for the swim leg.
This is a non-continuously timed event. Each leg is timed individually then added together for your final time. Again, avoid standing near the mat with your anklet. This will start or stop a time being recorded.
You should bring with you:
- Clothes, swimsuit, and shoes suitable for the triathlon
- A bike and helmet (REQUIRED for the cycling portion of the race). Parents, please ensure the bike is safe and fits the athlete properly.
- Goggles recommended for swimming
- Towel and water bottle
Determined the week of the event
100 meters (4 laps – down and back twice). Two athletes per lane. Lifeguards are on site to assist and encourage you. This leg must be completed for a final race time, so if you need a rest, take it! After, you’ll have ten minutes to take your bike to the start of the bike leg outside the pool doors.
Parents may watch the swim leg from the viewing balcony. Parents are not allowed on the pool deck; no exceptions. To avoid overcrowding the balcony, we’ll post heat times outside the pool door. Please do not head up to the balcony more than five heats before your athlete swims.
3 miles (two laps) around the Oswego East High School parking lot. Course marshals will guide athletes. Athletes must follow the course marshalls, use caution at all intersections, and obey all traffic laws. The parking lot will not be blocked from traffic. The course ends along the visitor road of the football field. You will have five minutes to put your bike away before reporting to the track.
½ mile (two laps) around the outside track. Athletes meet at the track’s infield prior to their heat. Parents may watch from behind the fence or in the stands, but are not allowed on the track. In case of inclement weather, the event will be on the indoor track upstairs.
Three athletes to a team. One athlete per event. Team information kept under team captain who registered. Team packets include three shirts and three bibs. Members of the teams will wear the team anklet when they compete in their leg. Team bike and run legs begin at the same time as the individual swimming leg. Check your heat assignments so you are ready to go. All times will be added for their overall team score.
Concessions will be available for sale. Complementary oranges and bananas available to athletes at the track. You may also bring a healthy snack of your own.
Awards for every level announced at 2:30pm at the stadium. Athletes should sit on the track. Parents may watch from the bleachers. All final times posted online at oswegolandparkdistrict.org.
In the event of inclement weather, the event will become a duathlon, consisting of swim and run times. For team divisions, we ask the bike leg athletes to run around the track and will enter two run times towards their overall team time.
