2023 Capital Improvement Project Highlights
Improving YOUR Places to Play. Investing in the Community. Projects currently in Planning or Construction for 2023 are listed below.
Park Projects
Shelter Project
The Shelter Project includes improvements to three parks and Winrock Pool.
- Dugout covers for the ballfields at Prairie Point Community Park, Wormley Heritage Park, and Old Post Park.
- Shade structure for the ballfield core sitting area at Prairie Point Community Park
- Shade structure for the spectator seating area at Winrock Pool
Briarcliff Woods Prairie Wetlands
The Briarcliff Woods Prairie Wetlands improvement project will include the installation of a new drinking fountain and a paved, off-street parking lot with approximately 19 spaces.
SuzanJohn Park
The SuzanJohn Park Playground Replacement Project will include:
- Existing playground equipment will be donated to Kids Around the World. They will refurbish and install it for children in a community without access to a playground.
- New Benches, Picnic Tables, Trash Cans & Bike Racks
- Wood Fiber Safety Surfacing
- ADA Accessible Features Include: Harness Swing, Spinner, Sand Digger & Transfer Station
Veterans Serenity Park
The Veterans Serenity Park project includes a mix of aesthetic and safety improvements throughout the park. New features include cable handrails for existing stone bridges, a Donor Appreciation Wall, additional brick memorial pavers, and safety signage.
Trail Projects
Trail Improvement Projects
- Repave portions of the Grove Road Trail between Collins Road and Stephens Road
- Repave Prairie Point Trail between Arboretum Way and Deerfield Drive
- Repave portions of the Fox River Trail between Route 30 and Route 25
Facility Projects
Facilities Renovation Project
A large, multi-year, multi-phased project that includes various facility improvements to Civic Center, South Point, Boulder Point, Prairie Point, and the Fox Bend Clubhouse. 2023 will consist of design and consulting services, with construction planned for 2024 and beyond.
Little White School Museum Ramp Project
The Oswegoland Park District received a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) for ADA updates to the Little White School Museum. The existing chair lift at the entrance to the Museum is in need of replacement. The new wood ramp system will begin at the sidewalk off East Jackson Street and wrap around the building to the door at the back of the Museum Gallery. The back door will be replaced with an accessible model, including a doorbell and safety light. Anticipated Project Completion in June 2023.

- New 2-5 year old Playground
- Seating Area
- Site Amenities
- Native Landscape Restoration
- Trail/Path extension
- New Off-Street Parking Lot with 20 spaces and 1 Handicapped
