DEI LogoAgency DEI Statement – YOUR Place to Play

The Oswegoland Park District is YOUR Place to Play. We intentionally work to ensure that each member of our community feels a sense of belonging and has full opportunity to thrive in our environment.

Together, we strive to build and nurture an inclusive culture that encourages, supports, and celebrates diversity. Bringing together people of various backgrounds leads to new and creative ideas, fuels innovation, connects individuals and opportunities, and reflects the community we serve.

We commit to helping establish awareness and transform mindsets, behaviors, and practices to create and sustain a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment to work and play.

Land Acknowledgment Statement

As an organization dedicated to being “true, honest ambassadors of the public trust,” the Oswegoland Park District respectfully acknowledges that our facilities and parks are located on lands many Native people and tribes resided on for tens of thousands of years. We recognize those Indigenous communities who were forcibly removed from their homes, and honor their stories and cultures that persevered and still remain today. This land acknowledgment statement is a reminder that our work is not done, and we are committed to supporting and building relationships with Indigenous people, tribes, and organizations throughout Oswegoland.

Defining Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

Diversity: We commit to increasing diversity, which is expressed in myriad forms, including race and ethnicity, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, language, culture, national origin, religious commitments, age, (dis)ability status, and political perspective.

Equity: We commit to working actively to challenge and respond to barriers such as bias, harassment, and discrimination. We are committed to a policy of equal opportunity for all persons and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, religion, height, weight, or veteran status.

Inclusion: We commit to pursuing deliberate & mindful efforts to create and foster an environment where differences are welcomed, different perspectives are respectfully heard, and where every individual feels a sense of belonging. Inclusiveness is the product of respect and intentional action to make everyone feel seen, heard, and accepted.

The purpose of the Oswegoland Park District is “We Create Opportunities for a Healthy Community.” We welcome suggestions or concerns from any Park District patron or staff member at deicommittee@oswegolandpd.org.
